Testing double-header for Madibaz hockey squad

WITH two wins under their belt from last weekend, the NMMU Madibaz squad’s stamina will be tested in another double-header in the EP men’s premier hockey league this weekend.

The Madibaz made large strides towards the league title with bonus-point wins a week ago, but they face tough matches tomorrow and on Sunday.

Firstly, they travel to Grahamstown to take on varsity counterparts Rhodes, and then on Sunday at their home base they line up against Lakeside Cavaliers, the only team to haveheld them this season.

You would fancy the Madibaz to get the better of Rhodes, but the Grahamstown team will be fired up for this varsity showdown and will be keen to give a good account of themselves at home.

Lakeside Cavaliers and the Madibaz drew 4-4 in an early season encounter, which should give the Cavaliers some belief in their ability for Sunday’s showdown.

Leading women’s sides Gelvan Tornados and the Madibaz will be looking to forge ahead this weekend. The Tornados clash with St Peters tonight, while the Madibaz join their male counterparts in Grahamstown tomorrow. The scheduled fixtures are:

Women Today, 6pm: Gelvan Tornados v St Peters at KC March

Tomorrow, 2.45pm: Rhodes v Madibaz at Rhodes
